At Home with… Sarah Bell of Evermore London

Say hello to Evermore London. Established in 2016, Evermore London is a luxury candle brand and creative fragrance studio, inspired by a deep respect for the natural world. Founded by Sarah Bell in 2014, Evermore grew from her desire to create cleaner, eco-conscious alternatives to traditional candles.

What began as a hobby soon revealed the need for sustainable candles free from harmful ingredients. After countless late nights experimenting with waxes, wicks and fragrances, Sarah developed a vegan wax blend with rich, layered scents. In this interview, we chat with Sarah about her journey, the creative process behind her candles and the role sustainability plays in her brand.

We’re proud to be the first stockist in Glasgow, alongside Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh, and we look forward to bringing Evermore to you soon.

Sarah of Evermore London

1. What was the lightbulb moment that led you to start Evermore Candles? Share the story of how it all began. Was there a specific experience or thought that inspired you? Personal stories can really bring this to life for readers.

The lightbulb moment for Evermore London came during a period of personal reflection. I had always loved candles and would often use them to create a calming, serene atmosphere at home. However, I began to notice that many of the candles I was using were made with paraffin wax and poor-quality fragrances, which not only emitted toxins but also felt at odds with my values around sustainability and wellness. I wanted to create something that aligned more closely with my commitment to environmental responsibility — a candle that was both luxurious and eco-friendly. This realisation was the catalyst for Evermore. My goal has always been to create a brand that offers beautifully crafted, sustainable candles without compromising the health of our homes or our planet. From there, I began researching natural waxes and sustainable materials, and Evermore was born.

2. How do you decide on the scents for each collection — are there any personal favourites?

The process of deciding on scents for each collection is both an art and a deeply personal journey. Each fragrance is inspired by a specific memory, season, or experience that holds a special place in my heart. For example, our scent MOON was inspired by a late summer evening in the English countryside, where the air was filled with the scent of blooming roses and the earthiness of fresh herbs. We work closely with a team of expert perfumers to translate these inspirations into complex, layered fragrances that evoke a sense of place. My personal favourites often change with the seasons. Right now, I’m drawn to GROVE, that delivers an earthy blend of cedarwood, pine needle and orange — perfect for the shift in seasons, when you want to create a cosy, inviting atmosphere at home.

3. Your candles look as good as they smell. What’s your design process like?

Design is central to our process at Evermore, as we believe a candle should be as visually appealing as it is fragrant. Our design philosophy is rooted in simplicity, focusing on natural beauty and minimalism. We use timeless black vessels with gold foiling, made to suit a range of interior styles and designed for reuse or recycling. A significant part of this process involves choosing the right colours for our boxes, as colour plays a crucial role in conveying the mood and story behind each scent. When selecting the colours for our boxes, we worked closely with the team at G . F Smith. Each colour was carefully chosen to complement the fragrance inside. For example, a scent inspired by a fresh, spring morning might be paired with a soft lilac shade, while a deeper, more mysterious fragrance might come in a rich navy or charcoal box.

4. You’ve also introduced incense sticks to your collection. What inspired you to explore this, and how do they work alongside your candles?

Introducing incense sticks to our collection felt like a natural evolution for us. We wanted to expand our range of products that could offer a sense of peace and ritual in everyday life. Incense has a long history of being used for meditation, relaxation, and cleansing spaces; we saw an opportunity to reimagine this traditional product with a modern, sustainable twist. We worked with our supplier to create a smoke-less blend that creates less smoke than traditional incense, which can be bad for our health.

5. Sustainability is a big part of your brand. How do you keep things responsible while maintaining that luxury feel?

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Evermore. We believe that luxury should not come at the expense of our planet, so we are committed to using sustainable practices throughout our production process. This includes using natural, renewable waxes like soy, and sourcing our ingredients from suppliers who adhere to ethical practices. Our packaging is made from recycled materials and is designed to be fully recyclable or reusable. We also minimise waste by producing in small batches and focusing on quality over quantity.
